Handshake is a small decentralized naming protocol, and the HS3 is Bitmain's dedicated miner for it: 9 TH/s at 2079W, working out to 231 J/TH. The algorithm pairs a Blake hash with SHA-3, and only a couple of ASICs on the market run it. That is both the appeal and the risk. HNS hashrate is concentrated across few machines, so difficulty can move sharply when a batch comes online or drops off. Physically it is a standard air-cooled Bitmain box with four fans on a 220-240V feed. The low price reflects the age of the design and the size of the HNS market rather than any fault in the hardware itself.
