Shipping an ASIC Miner to Indonesia via DHL: What Actually Happens

What happens between checkout and delivery when you order an ASIC miner from Hong Kong to Jakarta, Surabaya, or elsewhere in Indonesia: DHL's direct freighter route, customs clearance, and what changes if you're outside the two main cities.

You've picked a miner, checked out, and now you're watching a tracking number. Here's what actually happens between that click and a box showing up at your door in Indonesia — and what's genuinely different if you're in Jakarta or Surabaya versus somewhere else.

    The short answer

Every order ships from our Kwai Chung, Hong Kong facility via DHL Express. DHL doesn't publish an exact day-count for the Hong Kong–Indonesia lane on its own site — its country guide for Indonesia says only that parcels "typically arrive within a few working days," and that Jakarta and Surabaya get more consistent delivery than remote islands. We're not going to invent a number DHL itself doesn't give you. What we can tell you is why that lane is faster than it used to be, what it costs, and what happens at each step.

Why Jakarta shipments move faster now

In October 2024, DHL added a direct Hong Kong–Jakarta freighter route to its network: a dedicated Boeing 737-800F flying four times a week, scheduled to land in Jakarta at 8:00am local time. Before that, Hong Kong–Indonesia freight typically routed through a hub, adding a leg and a layover. A direct flight removes that.

This matters for a fifteen-kilogram ASIC miner in the same way it matters for any DHL Express shipment on that route: fewer handoffs, fewer places a box sits waiting for the next flight. It's the concrete reason DHL's own material points to Jakarta and Surabaya as the reliably-served destinations, and why we route every Indonesia order through DHL Express rather than a cheaper freight-forwarder option.

    Shipping cost

Our checkout uses two flat rules, no matter which of the four brands you're ordering:

    Order valueDHL Express shipping
    Under $5,000$150 flat
    $5,000 and overFree

A single Antminer S21 Pro at $4,950 ships for the flat $150 rate. Add a second unit, or pair it with an accessory, and the order clears $5,000 — shipping drops to free. Worth timing a two-unit order around that threshold if you're close to it either way.

This is DHL Express door-to-door freight, not a slower economy service — the $150 flat rate and the direct Jakarta freighter are the same shipping product, just priced as a flat fee instead of by weight and zone.

What happens after you check out, step by step

    1. Order confirmation. You get a confirmation email with your order number. Our team pulls the unit from stock and prepares the commercial invoice DHL and Indonesian customs will need — accurate declared value, HS code, and description. Under-declaring value to dodge duty is a real practice on some grey-market sites; it's also the fastest way to get a shipment held or seized, so we don't do it.

    2. DHL pickup from Hong Kong. DHL collects from our Kwai Chung facility and the shipment enters the DHL Express network, where it's scanned and manifested for the next available flight.

    3. The direct Jakarta freighter, or a routed flight. If your shipment is going to Jakarta or a location DHL serves well from Jakarta, it's a strong candidate for that direct four-times-weekly B737-800F flight. Shipments to other cities may route differently through DHL's broader Indonesia network — DHL doesn't publish which destinations use which flight, so we can't promise a specific routing, only that Jakarta and Surabaya are the two cities DHL itself calls out as consistently served.

    4. Customs clearance in Indonesia. This is the step most likely to add time, and it's worth understanding rather than treating as a black box. Indonesia's Directorate General of Customs and Excise (Bea Cukai) processes courier shipments like this under its "barang kiriman" consignment rules: duty and VAT are calculated based on the declared FOB value, DHL handles the paperwork as your customs broker of record, and once assessed, any duty and PPN (VAT) owed gets collected — usually before or at delivery, depending on DHL's local billing process. We cover the actual duty tiers and VAT rate in detail in our Indonesia import tax guide rather than repeat the full table here, but the short version: standard consignment shipments in this value range are assessed at a flat duty rate, plus PPN, with no special import license required for a personal shipment.

    5. Last-mile delivery. Once cleared, DHL's local network takes over for final delivery. In Jakarta and Surabaya, DHL has consistent local courier coverage. Outside those two cities — smaller cities on Java, other islands, more remote areas — DHL's own guidance flags that delivery may take additional time, since local coverage and hand-off logistics vary by region.

    Packaging and insurance

ASIC miners ship in their original manufacturer packaging (the reinforced carton the factory ships them in), which is then boxed again for the DHL Express network. Hashboards, control boards, and PSUs travel as a single unit inside that double-boxing rather than disassembled — that's both how the manufacturer designs the packaging to survive freight handling and how customs expects to see a complete unit declared.

Every shipment is insured for its declared value as standard through DHL Express. If a unit arrives with transit damage, that's a claim against the shipment, not something you absorb — keep the original packaging and photograph any damage before you open the inner box further, since that's what a freight claim requires.

What's different in Jakarta and Surabaya vs. elsewhere

If you're mining in Jakarta or Surabaya, you're in DHL's best-served pair of cities for this lane — see our Jakarta and Surabaya pages for what local hosting and power costs look like in each. If you're elsewhere — other cities on Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, or the outer islands — plan around DHL's own caveat that delivery to those areas can take additional time beyond what a Jakarta or Surabaya delivery would. It's still DHL Express the whole way; there's no separate slower service tier we put you on. The extra time, when it happens, is a function of last-mile coverage in less-dense areas, not a different shipping product.

Start with the Indonesia ASIC miner buying guide if you haven't picked a machine yet, or go straight to the import tax breakdown for the duty and VAT numbers before you check out. Browse current stock in the shop, or see local power and hosting context for Jakarta and Surabaya.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long does shipping to Indonesia actually take?+
DHL's own published guidance for this lane says shipments "typically arrive within a few working days," without giving an exact day count, and notes Jakarta and Surabaya are more consistently served than other areas. We won't quote a specific number DHL itself doesn't publish — if you need a firm delivery estimate for your specific city, DHL's own rate-and-transit-time tool at checkout gives a live quote for your address.
What if I'm not in Jakarta or Surabaya?+
Your order still ships via the same DHL Express service. DHL's guidance is that delivery outside the two main cities may take longer, since local courier coverage is less dense on other islands and in smaller cities. It doesn't change your shipping cost or the service level — it's a last-mile timing difference, not a downgrade.
Do I need to be home to receive it?+
DHL typically requires a signature for a shipment of this value, and Indonesian customs clearance may require you or your customs broker to confirm identity or documentation before final release. If you won't be available, DHL's local courier can usually arrange redelivery or hold-for-pickup at a local depot — check with DHL Indonesia directly once your tracking number is active, since exact redelivery options are set by DHL's local operation, not by us.
What if customs holds my package?+
Most consignment shipments in this value range clear under Indonesia's standard barang-kiriman process without a hold. If Indonesian customs does flag a shipment — for additional documentation, valuation review, or duty payment — DHL acts as your customs broker and will contact you directly for anything they need. Keep your order confirmation and commercial invoice details on hand in case they're requested. Our import tax guide covers the duty and VAT tiers so you know roughly what to expect before it's assessed.
    What if something arrives damaged?+
Every shipment is insured for its declared value. Don't discard the outer or inner packaging until you've inspected the unit — photograph any damage first, then contact us with your order number. We handle the DHL claim on our side; you don't file it yourself. Units also carry manufacturer warranty coverage regardless of shipping condition — see our warranty and repair page for coverage terms, and our return policy if a unit needs to go back.
